Bio: Elliott & Lori Snuggs

Background Info:

We (Elliott and Lori) first met in August 1983 when both went to Japan with A3 as short-term missionaries. Now, over 30 years later, we are still serving with A3, though married and working in the U.S. headquarters office. Elliott is from Texas and Lori is from Pennsylvania. So God had to work to get us together first in Japan and now in Los Angeles. Elliott has an M.Div. from Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, CA and a Masters of Management Arts from the Peter Drucker School of Management at Claremont Graduate University in Claremont, CA.

Ministry Assignment:

Elliott is the Executive Vice President at A3. His primary responsibility is to assist the president in the area of organizational management. His primary focus is on strategic planning, launching new initiatives, and facilitating key leadership teams.

Words of wisdom...

If you think God might be calling you into missionary service, don't say "NO." Remember Jonah! God has a way of getting you where you need to be, and if it is Japan, an airplane is preferable to a big fish!

When you're in Asia, be sure to...

Enjoy the sights, sounds and smells of a completely different culture. What a great opportunity!

Funniest story of life in Japan...

One of my (Elliott's) students in Japan told me in 1983 to cut back on sodas. When I asked him why, he couldn't figure out what exactly to say in English, but finally came up with the phrase, "because it will melt your bones!" Good enough reason for me!

What we've learned here...

You don't have to force anything. God will put you in the right place to use your gifts and abilities for his kingdom. There is no better place to be than in the center of God's will for your life.

How is God blessing your life and ministry?

God has blessed us incredibly with a wonderful church, a wonderful family and a wonderful team of people to work with at A3. Recently, Elliott has had the opportunity to do more teaching on strategic planning in Asia and is enjoying doing that in various cultures. In addition to his work with A3, both Elliott and Lori had the opportunity to serve the Third Lausanne Congress on World Evangelization where Elliott was the manager of the Cape Town International Convention Center for the gathering in October 2010. We are tremendously thankful for God’s call on our lives.

professionals-mtgThe mission of A3 is to identify, develop and release emerging kingdom leaders to unite the church, multiply leaders and congregations and extend the transforming power of the gospel of Jesus Christ. But just who are emerging kingdom leaders? After all, these are our primary customers.

For the last three decades, A3's constituency has been pastors. Our target has been pastors who are emerging kingdom leaders, leaders of leaders, leaders with potential rather than potential leaders. We now work with...

A3’s mission statement is to "identify, develop and release leaders." We consider those three verbs to be core competencies. They are at the heart of what God has called us to do. Each of them is a challenge unto itself. But it is the final one that can be the most emotionally challenging. . .

We've all experienced the emotions of releasing someone we love. I remember the first day my son went to kindergarten. My wife and I cried as we walked back from dropping him off. We had released him for the first time to someone else's care. It was difficult. But we knew it was the right thing for him. Now he is going to be a senior in high school. We are one year away from releasing him again.

Today as A3 released our president, Doug Birdsall, to devote 100% of his organizational leadership to Lausanne, I think many of us find this releasing thing difficult. It is so much easier to keep people within than to send them out. As Doug shared with all of us his decision to leave A3, I felt a deep sadness mixed with a deeper joy. Sad that we would lose such a gifted and talented leader--a true friend, but joyful that he is released to a new role in the kingdom which will have a wide ranging effect on world evangelization.

So I find myself reflecting on the last 24 years that I have ministered together with Doug in A3. He picked me up at the airport the first day I traveled to Japan to launch a whole new era of my life. He believed in me enough to ask me to serve next to him when he became president back in June of 1991. I've shed some tears today. But releasing is what we are all about; releasing leaders to unite the church, multiply the church, and transform the world through the power of the gospel. Praise God that he allows us the privilege, even when it is hard to do.
