A Tribute to My Friend, Noel Becchetti

by H.A. Moldez, A3 / Philippines
Every time Noel comes to join A3 Philippines training sessions, he sits at the back. He sits just there with us, showing all his support for our A3 Philippine working team. His presence demonstrates trust and a tender heart. Just watching him is an A3 lesson of learning to live and lead in the humble way of the Lord.
A “big man” in A3 but his presence does not exude the bossiness of many leaders. He is just a big brother who plays and laughs with us.
Noel embodies the outcomes of A3 leader development as a real servant leader. He shares what he thinks for us to see a larger perspective but ensures that it's our call to fulfill the way we see God is leading us. He honestly expresses his opinion but does not push his way. He simply guides us to Christ. It’s up to us to consider what this means to us but his perspective is light to follow Christ.
Good leaders get things done but in many cases, they push their way. Noel pursues what must be done but in a gentle way. Many leaders get things done their own way. But Noel listens to what we have to say. He is straightforward. However, he does it with the meekness of Christ. He works with a clear schedule. But it is not to fix us. He flexes if necessary to serve the interest of others by giving way in love and grace. We have grown in A3 Philippines to explore the path in our context because Noel does not have an agenda for his success. It is the honor of the Lord that he seeks in partnership with us.
In one of our last brotherly conversations, Brother Noel said his time with A3 is coming to an end. He did not elaborate more as he does not want to preempt anything. In not so many words he made me curious but confident that God is calling him to a new season of life and ministry. All I know is he has been pondering and praying on how to end well to begin a fresh journey to respond to God’s calling.
Rare are leaders today who choose to be faithful which means he does not mind being forgotten. But how could we forget a man whose chief interest is the glory of Christ? He knows that the accolades of people are empty praises.
Noel has become a true friend to all of us. We deeply sense his genuine care. We all feel that he only thinks the best for A3 Philippines. He does not want credit. So how can we forget a brother whose love for the Lord warms our hearts?
I know deep in my heart that his way of sitting in the corner to be present with us is done in the presence of God. God sees his heart and hears his prayers for us. These are more than enough for God to work in every session and even if he is not with us, he prays for us.
There is no other Noel Bechetti. We will no longer see his presence. But the corner where he sits will always remind us of the man who has blessed us so much. Keep on your journey, my dear brother. Let others be blessed where the Lord sends you to serve Him.
