You never know what you will run into with A3
All of our A3 National Directors have day jobs—usually, many day jobs. Chinzorig Jigjidsuren, A3/Mongolia National Director, is no exception. He is lead pastor for a large church in Ulaanbaatar (Mongolia’s capitol city) and a key member of the Mongolian Church Council, a consortium of pastors and other key leaders committed to reaching Mongolia’s 2.7 million people for Christ. He is also a husband, father, and grandfather.
But his most intriguing day job is his role as board chair for one of the most innovative media outreaches I’ve seen anywhere. FM 104.5 is a commercial radio station that has been broadcasting in Ulaanbaatar for the past 12 years. It is a station run by Christians, with Christian values, but targeted to the general population.
”Christians are not our target audience,” I was told by station president T. Batjargal. “We are trying to reach the local population with programming that speaks to their felt needs.
“Mongolia faces terrific social problems—marriage and family issues, domestic violence, and substance abuse, to name a few. Along with popular music, we provide talk-show content that tackles these subjects from a Christian perspective. We then offer ‘focus group’ in-person discussions to our audience. If they wish, they can visit the station and attend one of our focus groups. There, we can share the gospel more directly.
“Our programming is so popular that we have been the number-one rated station in Ulaanbaatar for the past five years.”
We in the West could learn much from what our brothers and sisters in Mongolia are doing through an outreach like FM 104.5. I’m thrilled that an innovator like Chinzorig Jigjidsuren is the national director for A2’s leader development training in Mongolia.
