A2’s Transforming Vision:
Developing Leaders Across Asian Society
The mission of A3 is to identify, develop and release emerging kingdom leaders to unite the church, multiply leaders and congregations and extend the transforming power of the gospel of Jesus Christ. But just who are emerging kingdom leaders? After all, these are our primary customers.
Who are Emerging Kingdom Leaders?
For the last three decades, A3’s constituency has been pastors. Our target has been pastors who are emerging kingdom leaders, leaders of leaders, leaders with potential rather than potential leaders. We now work with such pastors in 11 countries in Asia, with more countries hoping to join us in the coming years.
In recent years, we have been sensing God guiding us to a broader understanding of His kingdom strategy in Asia. Pastors are certainly emerging kingdom leaders--but so are leaders in the business sector, the arts, education, and government. Would it not make sense to identify, develop and release emerging kingdom leaders in these sectors as well?
A Key Encounter
All of this had been percolating when a business leader in Hong Kong heard A3 President Joe Handley explain the A3 leadership development model. He was intrigued as Joe talked about bringing together 12 pastors who meet quarterly and move together through a two-year transformational process. The business leader began to envision how this learning community model could help him rise to another level of leadership where he could purposefully use his business to advance the Kingdom.
When Joe finished his presentation, the business leader approached him with these words:
“Joe, what you raise money to do for pastors,
I would pay you to do for me.”
Prototypes in Development
After extensive research and consultation with multiple stakeholders, A3 is preparing to launch two prototype leadership development programs for the business sector. By 2015, we expect to launch one prototype in Seoul and another in Hong Kong. Consistent with our core program, we will be focused on four outcomes for every leader:
- They are living in a love relationship with God
- They are growing as a Christ-like leader
- They are reproducing disciple-making leaders
- They are part of starting multiplying communities of faith
Same Vision, Broader Scope
Similar to our current training for pastors and church leaders, A3 will incorporate a holistic curriculum that will be tailored to the business sector. Topics will include theology of work, kingdom leader formation, missional small groups in the workplace, and more. But the real power of A2’s program will come as the Holy Spirit engages a vibrant community of kingdom-focused business leaders who are eager to extend the transforming power of the gospel of Jesus Christ across Asia.
A Divine Strategy for a Critical Time
This is the Asian Century. The need for a vibrant community of servant leaders with vision, character and competence leading the body of Christ across Asia has never been greater. We believe God is allowing A3 to be a part of meeting this need by identifying and developing emerging kingdom leaders in all sectors of Asian society. The Lord opened our eyes to see that this broader endeavor is part of our existing vision. We thank God that He has shaped A3 for such a time as this.
