It's getting tough out there...

ancient antique architecture 879359 500pxIt seems like every day, I’m hearing more reports about persecution happening in the world. I recently left a country that is under significant duress. The week we were there, a crackdown occurred in one of their most famous towns – a town known for having one of their national symbols. The pastors, alumni of A3, had gathered together for a city-wide gathering of churches, only to be harassed by their local community. It seems that everyone is after them: government officials, religious authorities and even the neighbors. It’s sad to see and many lives are often at stake. This type of situation is on the rise in many of the countries we work in. We see this type of harassment happening in more than half the countries we work in and so we could use your prayers. More importantly, they need your prayers!

"God could never forgive me!" ... A GivingTuesday story

Charya’s bones were crooked, he was missing an eye, he could barely walk. He was spiritually convicted during the A3 session as they talked about the apostle Paul being chief among sinners.

A Big Vision for Japan:

Vision Festa Church Multiplication Conference

vision festa panelThe Church in Japan faces a crisis. And Japan’s pastors and church leaders are stepping up to face it head-on. The crisis? Unless the Church begins to grow immediately, it is possible that the Christian community in Japan will literally die out within 30 years. It’s stark evidence that illustrates how difficult it has been for the Gospel to impact the Japanese culture. The encouragement? Leaders in Japan are collaborating to explore new ways to plant and multiplying churches. In October, over 100 leaders from throughout Japan came together at Vision Festa...

Agape Love

kishinamiagape love - n. selfless love of one person for another without sexual implications (especially love that is spiritual in nature)

Silk and I enjoyed visiting Pastor Kishinami this week who is noted for planting 33 house chapels in Tohoku following the triple disaster of March 11, 2011. What a wonderful visit with tremendous lessons learned. The key to Pastor Kishinami’s success has been Agape Love! He shared how love, without expecting anything in return (no return on investment), is the key to evangelism and church planting. While we were together, Pastor Kishinami even cut the grass of one of the friends to show his love for the neighbors as a tangible expression of this love. It was fun watching him serve and interact with the people. See the photo of him serving the community!

Match challenge met, thanks to you

A3 Match April2018 header 800x200

I have great news to share on two fronts! First, we are so pleased to report that we have reached our recent match grant goal by raising $177,353. Because of friends like you, the $167,000 match is not only met—it was exceeded by $10,353! Combined with the match that means an additional $344,353 is now available to launch new A3 programs in more Asian countries. We are now capable to do much more...

Reminder: Double your gift before it's too late

A3 Match April2018 header 800x200

Good news! We are getting very close to meeting our matching gift—we just need $12,448 more. If you give soon, your gift can still be doubled! Recently I met a mangled, old-looking pastor in one of the small A3 training cohorts in Cambodia. Charya’s bones were crooked, he was missing an eye, he could barely walk. Charya (not his real name for security reasons) was convicted during the session as they talked about the apostle Paul being chief among sinners. He later confessed to the director, "I’m worse than that man."

A "killing fields" killer plants over 300 churches. How is this possible?

A3 Match April2018 header 800x200

Recently I met a mangled, old-looking pastor in one of the small A3 training cohorts in Cambodia. Charya’s bones were crooked, he was missing an eye, he could barely walk. But before I get to his story in the next paragraph, I want to share some good news—the largest match challenge in A3’s history is still not over. So your gift or pledge at this time can still be doubled!  Now, back to Charya… Charya (not his real name for security reasons) was convicted during the session as they talked about the apostle Paul being chief among sinners. He later confessed to the director, “I’m worse than that man.” You see, Charya was a commander...

Exponential Growth

Joe and Silk with friendsLast week I had the privilege of visiting Pastor Youngsan Cho, a Korean missionary serving with A3 partner church Hongodai from Yokohama appointed to Ishinomaki. He’s the pastor I’ve been sharing about leading the Ochako “Tea” House in Ishinomaki. We’ve posted a few stories about him. This visit was quite profound for me. Cho sensei, as we call him, was his normal ebullient self. He’s the most optimistic joyful Korean missionary I’ve ever met. I love being around him!

Is "conversion" a bad word?

Joe and John WJohn Worcester, A3 faculty from ChurchPlanting.net, recently taught for us here in Japan after teaching for us in Mongolia. The seminar here in Tokyo was done in concert with Biblical Church of Tokyo. Prior to the seminar, we had a dynamic discussion where John made a provocative statement:“It’s as if 'conversion' has become a bad word.” After reading the news and following the reports of Billy Graham’s legacy, this statement struck me even more powerfully. The essence of Graham’s ministry was all about people converting to Christ.

National missions conference in Sri Lanka catalyzes new beginnings

Navodaya conference sparks key church planting, family enrichment, and healing initiatives in Sri Lanka

Rev. Adrian DeVisser is Founder of Kithu Sevana Ministries, National Director for A3 Sri Lanka, and Vice President for Partnership Development for A3. This past January, Adrian, in collaboration with key national leaders, organized the Navodaya (New Beginning) Conference at the Ape Kadella Camp and Conference Center outside of Colombo. The Conference brought together leaders from throughout Sri Lanka. As Adrian shares here, God moved powerfully through the Navodaya Conference.

“The Navodaya conference was organized in January 2018 to fulfil a threefold objective...

Former Hindu priest with vision to see 2.4M people come to Christ!

Not long ago I met this pastor in one of our A3 cohorts. His name, face and country are hidden to protect him, his family, church and the work of God in his community. What a story though! As he was sharing, I learned that he was formerly a Hindu Priest. He came to the capital of his country to seek a better life because he was on the brink of disaster—close to suicide because his life was so bad. Along the way...
