Strategic Category 1: Developing the Leader

A3 DevelopingTheLeader 900x200

A3 utilizes an interwoven curriculum that focuses on fourteen strategic areas of leadership and church health. These strategic areas are covered in a variety of ways depending on the needs and situation of the participants and on the availability of faculty.

There are four categories covered:

  1. Developing the Leader
  2. Reproducing Other Leaders
  3. Multiplying Churches
  4. Expanding the Kingdom...

A Joyful Tokyo Thanksgiving: “The Joy of Parenting"

gary barbara 2014 500px wideWhat a blessing to be with our team here in Tokyo yesterday for our Thanksgiving banquet. It was so fun just being with everyone and experiencing a little Americana together. My highlight was when we were sharing stories of gratitude with one another and Barbara Bauman shared a wonderful story. After two decades of faithful ministry summed up in the principles taught in her 2002 book, Discovering the Joy of Parenting, one of the first class participants, Sanae, is taking a new step of faith. Sanae came to a mothers group nearly 20 years ago and has been faithfully learning and growing ever since. She’s been an active Bible reader, learning so many wonderful lessons about parenting from the Bible...

Marital Health... Pastoral Health... Church Health... Societal Health

gpro jtThe tagline for the Global Proclamation Congress for Pastoral Trainers is “Accelerating Church Health Worldwide” and Dr. Ramesh Richard repeats almost every day that pastoral health leads to church health which leads to societal health! Today, during the Spiritual Engagement Track, Dr. Jason Tan from the Great Commission Training Centre in the Philippines added another crucial element to this process: Marital Health! He suggested during our track on Marriage and Family that Marital Health leads to Pastoral Health and you can guess where to take it from there...

Pastors experiencing new level of intimacy with spouses

tim-wakako-clark-2015 Pastors throughout Japan are experiencing a new level of intimacy with their spouses. As The Marriage Course DVDs from Alpha International have recently been produced in Japanese, courses have been launched specifically for pastors with the hope that these leaders will then run the course at their own churches. One pastors' course was held at Kobe Union Church. Over 100 local pastors were invited but just four couples signed up—and just two of the four were pastors. But both had great need. One shared with me that he and his wife were looking for help and...

Reaching Whole Families for Christ

tmc tanakaYOKOHAMA, JAPAN  Hiroshi and Maki Tanaka were like many other couples. In public they looked warm and loving but at home it was a different story. They hardly ever talked. When they did, they argued. And when they started arguing, they couldn't stop. In 2012 they began visiting Glory Church in Yokohama. Very quickly Pastor Koyama realized the church couldn't lead this couple to Christ without addressing their marriage crisis. So he started running The Marriage Course from...

A Child Shall Lead Them

A few weeks ago, as I was calling several churches who gave to Japan's special tsunami relief efforts, one church shared a powerful story. This church's attendance averages around 125 people, yet they ended up being one of the top ten giving churches in America helping us match the $1,000,000 challenge to bring both spiritual and physical hope to...

3 Waves 3 Walls: Reflections following Japan's Triple Disaster

The last few months I've been listening carefully to pastors from Japan share their reflections post 3/11/11. Their learning is profound because their reflections are deep.

As you know, Japan was hit by a triple disaster on March 11, 2011 with three distinct waves:

  1. The 9.0 earthquake which did relatively little
  2. ...

Japan's divorce rate threatens the family unit

Japan (MNN) ― One in every four marriages in Japan now ends in divorce. The issue has been a source of concern for a society in which families are a core strength. The Japanese grow up following their society's emphasis on social interdependence---the concept of being members of the whole as
